Antony started training in 1982 at the Montem Sports Centre in Slough, Berkshire. Soon moving on to train under Jack Poole at the Stadium Centre in 1983. The club was part of the British Aikido Federation, run under the guidance of Minoru Kanetsuka Sensei. 7th Dan Aikiaki. He remained in the BAF until settling in the Aylesbury area in 1995.
Here he trained under Bill Harris until the year 2000. In 1998 Mouliko Halén held a course for the Kai Shin Kai, the organisation that the Aylesbury clubs belonged too. Antony and some other members were inspired by what he had seen and over the next few years visited him in Norway and invited him back to the UK to teach. Mouliko was kind enough to introduce Antony to Jan Nevelius and Jorma Lyly from Sweden and Frank Ostoff from Germany.
These people have greatly influenced both how he teaches and the way he now practices, his yudansha grades have been taken in Sweden under Endo Sensei 8th Dan Aikikai.
I started training Aikido in 2000 with Jeremy Osbourne and John Saunders at a club in Dunstable, Bedfordshire. Jeremy and John have a close relationship with Antony and I started to train primarily with him after the club in Dunstable closed.
Antony introduced me to the Scandinavian teachers Mouliko Halén, Jan Nevelius and Jorma Lyly whose generous teaching all helped kindle a love of Aikido and encouraged me to continue training in Aikido long-term.
This Scandinavian connection has allowed me to take my Aikikai-Tokyo Grades under Endo Sensei in Sweden; and it is the Aikido of Endo Sensei, Tissier Sensei and their many excellent students whom I most enjoy following and training under.
When I teach Aikido I try to impart some of the happiness and joy that training for Antony and these other teachers has to brought me.
Phil started training in Kendo (Japanese fencing) in 1975 at a dojo in central London. Here he trained under Len Bean 7th Dan Iaido, 5th Dan Kendo, 5th Dan Jodo and Jock Hopson 7th Dan Iaido, 7th Dan Kendo, 7th Dan Jodo.
Phil attended regular camps taught by senior Japanese instructors such as Shizufumi Ishido sensei, 8th Dan Iaido, 8th Dan Jodo, 7th Dan Kendo. In 1997 he moved to Buckinghamshire and started Aikido training under Bill Harris. This is where he first came into contact with Antony. He continued his training under Antony when he started Kamo Aikido club in the year 2000.
